Catching Up!

I cannot believe it has been  4 months since I last posted here! This is what I was hoping to change about my writing habits by joining CPD23, i.e. little and often, rather than lots of doing-without-writing followed by near-hyperactive periods of lots and lots of writing. Obviously, I still have my work cut out for me!

The Portfolio Building event in Aberdeen – advertised previously on this blog – went well, and I have lots to write about. Starting with a follow up on Thing 3: regarding my professional branding, I have tweaked my Twitter description to these few words: Happy Librarian, working towards Chartership, CILIPS NE Newsletter Editor, Language lover, Lifelong learner 🙂  For the rest, I am finding that the Chartership process is allowing me to create plenty reflective space for myself as to how I want to develop professionally, and I will come back to this, possibly several times, on this blog.

Chartership Event in North East Scotland

Calling all Chartership Candidates in North East Scotland!

CILIPS (NE) are prepared to organise the compulsory Chartership/Portfolio Building event in Aberdeen sometime in the first two weeks of November, but we need at least 20 people attending for it to go ahead.

I know that North East Scotland has plenty of keen librarians/ information professionals who would benefit from this, but we need a clearer idea of numbers at this stage.

Please let me know by Friday 20th July 2012 if you think you would like to attend, so that we can go ahead with organising the event.

Many thanks in advance.

Thing 3: Consider your professional brand

I’ve thought about my ‘branding’ this evening. Hmm. I don’t want it to be about me, I’d like it to be about what I bring to the library world. But this is something I’m still  developing at the moment, very much in its infancy in terms of vocalising my contribution to the community. I’ll talk about it with my Mentor, explore more blogs and come back to this post in due course…so watch this space 🙂

Hello world, and CPD23 Participants!

Thing 1: Welcome to my very first blog!

I have just registered for CPD 23, and I am very excited. I started my Chartership earlier in 2012, and I came across the CPD23 course during my quest for developing a new habit of reflective writing about everything I do professionally (and a very welcome suggestion from one of my mentors!). Overtime, I expect to become better at reflective writing, and I hope that interaction with other librarian bloggers (let’s be honest, at this stage, I don’t expect anyone else to be reading this ;-)) will contribute to making the library world a better place. I haven’t read anyone else’s CPD23 blog yet, I’ll be exploring this shortly in Thing 2! At this stage, I foresee that my blog will contain reviews I write of books relating to the library profession, and reflective narrations of continuous professional development  I take part in. Happy CPD everyone!
